How to Renew Your License in Louisiana
Getting your license is a huge accomplishment, but then there comes the challenge of keeping it through renewal. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to renew your license. As a seasoned professional, you need to undergo 12 hours of continuing education every year to fulfill your educational needs. Once you complete the four mandatory hours and eight elective hours, you have until December 31 to renew your license. These educational course completions are reported to the Louisiana Real Estate Commission (LREC) every Tuesday.
Renewing After Your License Expires
Unfortunately, there are a few cases where someone’s license lapsed and is no longer legally usable. There could be a number of reasons for this. But if you find yourself in one of these situations, all isn’t lost. Licensees need to complete a number of continuing education hours depending on how long their license has been inactive.
- One to three years: 20 hours of continuing education.
- Three to five years: 40 hours of continuing education.
- More than five years: Maximum of 80 hours of continuing education.
Of course, you could keep your license inactive indefinitely, but you cannot perform any duties until the license is active once more. You only have to keep up with the yearly inactive procedures to ensure you can still do something with the license when the right time comes.
