How To Become A Real Estate Agent In Louisiana

Are you looking for a career change? Specifically, for a career that enhances your skills and is people-centric? The world of real estate may be for you! Most people have worked with real estate agents if they purchased or sold a home. But do you know what it takes to become a real estate agent in Louisiana? Find the information you need from Bob Brooks School—an online real estate school in Louisiana.

Before You Begin: Rules And Regulations

Rules give us structure and keep things easy to follow. Especially in the real estate world—rules and regulations are everywhere. In the state of Louisiana, those wishing to become real estate agents need to fulfill the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Possess a high school or equivalent education.
  • Complete 90 hours of real estate pre-licensing courses. (This number changes depending on the state.)
  • Have the sponsorship of a licensed real estate broker.
  • Pass the real estate licensing examination approved by the LREC
  • Provide proof of error and omissions insurance. (This insurance protects you and your broker from claims of inadequate work or negligence.)

Once you fulfill the first two items on this list, you can move on to your real estate pre-licensing courses. In Louisiana, you’re required to take 90 hours. But, we understand that you’re a busy individual. Who has time to go to a classroom? Luckily, you can take courses online with Bob Brooks School whenever and wherever you want, so you don’t have to disrupt your daily life. When you finish these courses, the next step is your exam!

Steps To Taking The Exam

Before you can take this all-important exam, you need to get your ID number. As of June 2019, individuals now need to create an Applicant Account in the LREC web portal, statereporting.com, to gain an ID instead of presenting their social security number. Next, you’ll need to send in your completed application to the Louisiana Real Estate Commission

Bob Brooks School will report your completion to LREC after you finish your course. They will verify your education, process your application and give you exam authorization through PSI, the company that facilitates the state and national exams. An email from PSI will prompt you to schedule and pay for your exam. Once you do, be sure to show up on time to the location of your choosing. Additionally, make sure you bring a calculator and two separate forms of valid identification with signatures.

Before stepping into the testing center, we highly recommend you complete our Ready.Set.Pass! review program. This program is included in the purchase of your pre-licensing course for free (a $124 value)! Ready.Set.Pass! is a comprehensive review program with online exam simulations and cumulative review videos.

To pass the exam, you need a score of 70%. Specifically, you need at least 56/80 correct answers for the national portion and 40/55 for the state portion. Study hard and good luck! After acquiring your license, be sure to look into your background check and post-licensing education!
